Program Highlights - Juvenile Dependency Mediation Program

The Juvenile Mediation Program (Dependency Cases) was started in 1998. The following agencies helped design this program:

  • Juvenile Court of San Mateo County
  • Multi-option ADR Project of the San Mateo County Superior Court
  • San Mateo County Human Services Agency
  • San Mateo County Counsel
  • Private Defender Program of the San Mateo County Bar Association
  • Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

Our goal is to give families involved with the juvenile dependency system an opportunity to resolve issues related to the safety and well-being of their children. To do this, we use an informal but structured mediation process.

Unlike other Juvenile Mediation Program (Dependency Cases) in California, we use trained volunteer mediators who are managed by the program manager.

Several times a year, an advisory committee with representatives from these organizations meets to review the program.

The Program is a collaborative effort of the Multi-Option ADR Project of the San Mateo County Superior Court, the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC) and the San Mateo County Human Services Agency.
